Student of the Quarter: Betsy!
As the fall semester approaches its midpoint, the campus is abuzz with hardworking students. At the Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium, one of those talented students is Betsy, a criminal justice major with a minor in Spanish. Since March 2025, she has been the welcoming face at Flandrau’s front desk.
In an interview, Betsy shared her plans after graduation, stating, “I’m planning to take a gap year to study for the LSAT in preparation for law school. After that, I plan to attend James E. Rogers College of Law.”
For Betsy, criminal justice isn’t just a field of study. “I chose it because I wanted to be a prosecutor,” she explained. “I didn’t just want to give families closure, but also be a guide and advocate for them during their hardest times. That is my inspiration”
When asked about her favorite memory of working at Flandrau, she exclaimed, “Ooh, that’s a good one!” Smiling, she added, “I guess it’s the moments when we host field trips. There’s something special about watching kids get excited over science. Hearing their feedback is incredible because, at the end of the day, that’s why we’re here. To introduce them to science, even if it’s not what they end up doing in the future. It’s heartwarming.”
The interview did not end there, of course. This bright student had some great advice to share with those coming into university. “It may be a big, scary thing and that's totally okay.” She reassured incoming students. “I would say put yourself out there and enjoy it while it lasts, and just know you can get through it.”
Betsy is a bright student who, of course, works at a science center & planetarium. So, the final question put a contagious smile on her face. She revealed that her favorite planet was “Mars! Honestly, it speaks to me, Saturn too. I love its rings!”
This student has left an undeniable impression on both guests and employees, being the first to train many newcomers at the front desk. It is this impact and dedication that has earned her Flandrau’s Student of the Quarter. Thank you, Betsy, for your continuous dedication to the team. Flandrau knows you will go far in both your education and career.
