Show descriptions
Our annual family favorite Season of Light will fill you with seasonal sparkle! This holiday classic traces the many festivals of light, across times and cultures, that celebrate the spirit of renewal around the Winter Solstice. This presentation also explores the history and development of many of the world's most endearing holiday customs — from the burning Yule log and sparkling Christmas tree to the lighting of luminarias in the American Southwest and the traditional ritual of the Hanukkah Menorah.
$12 for adults, $8 for kids, and $5 for Flandrau members. Discounts for seniors ($10), military ($10), college ID ($8), and EBT cardholders ($3).
NEW AT FLANDRAU! Already a holiday tradition for planetariums and theaters around the world, "Nutcracker Fantasy" presents audiences with Tchaikovsky’s classical ballet suite as you’ve never seen it before. Experience fanciful cel-frame laser animation with beautiful holiday imagery in this journey through the classic story of the Nutcracker. Join us for this wonderful family show for the holidays.

Celebrate the season with the Holiday Magic laser light show. Experience favorite holiday tunes brought to life with gorgeous laser choreography. Vibrant animations and abstracts dance above your heads, as the music takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. It might be cold outside, but it's nice and toasty under the dome. Gather up your loved ones and share the one-of-a-kind laser experience that is Holiday Magic.

Special Experiences - Winter Family Science Workshops
December 28, Thursday - Patterns in Nature
Have you ever wondered why honeybees are black and yellow or why jackrabbits are brown? In the animal world, colors and patterns are important adaptations for survival. In this workshop, you will learn about these adaptations, use your imagination to design an animal adapted for a specific environment, and create a nature notebook to record observations starting in our science exhibits and continuing in the great outdoors after the workshop ends.

December 29, Friday - Egg Drop Challenge
Is your family up to an "egg-cellent" challenge? In this workshop, you will work together as a family to explore the engineering process, then put your skills to the test as you design and build a structure to protect an egg from a 2-story drop!

January 3, Wednesday - Incredible Insects!
Did you know that insects are the most common animals on our planet? Join us to explore the amazing world of insects. You will learn about insect characteristics, their adaptations, and even handle live insects.

January 4, Thursday - Field Trip to the Moon
Join us to learn about our closest celestial neighbor, the Moon! This workshop will explore the moon’s characteristics such as its craters and how it changes in appearance throughout the month. You will make a moon crater, model the phases of the moon, and design a moon journal to record your observations of the moon over the next month.
Please note, this workshop involves OREOs (eating not required).
