Are you looking for a science-rich Flandrau experience? Try one of our Discovery Programs. These programs, sponsored by University of Arizona colleges and departments and led by University of Arizona undergraduate students, give participants the opportunity to experience hands-on, inquiry-based activities in a variety of science disciplines.
Program goals:
- To encourage students to "think like scientists" using observational, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- To encourage higher education by allowing interaction with University students.
- To introduce students to a variety of science fields.
Marine Discovery
3rd through 6th Grade
Marine Discovery workshop stations are hands-on, activity-based programs which provide students with the opportunity to learn about marine environments. Introduce your students to the diversity of life in our oceans and conservation with interactive activities!
Mineral Resource Discovery
6th through 12th Grade
Explore the science and engineering behind one of Arizona's most important industries, copper mining! This program integrates geology, engineering, chemistry, and environmental science to show real-world applications through immersive activities.
Psychology Discovery
5th through 12th Grade
Students will participate in a series of hands-on activities exploring various concepts in psychology such as sensation/perception, memory, social psychology, wellbeing/emotion, and the functions of neurons in the brain.
Physics Discovery
1st through 8th Grade
Sponsored by the Department of Physics, these hands-on workshops are designed to teach students about the simple laws that govern the physical universe.
Insect Discovery
1st through 3rd Grade
Insect Discovery programs are designed to teach elementary students science concepts through hands-on activities using live and preserved insects. These demonstrations and activities will immerse you into the amazing world of insects!
Earth Science Discovery
3rd through 6th Grade
Bring science alive for your class through hands-on activities exploring various earth science concepts such as the rock cycle, water cycle and carbon cycle. Workshop activities are led by UA students and align with AZ State and Next Generation Science Standards.
Pricing
Standard K-12 School/Youth Organization
Base Rate: $140 for up to 10 participants + $14 for each additional participant
- Optional Exhibits and Show Add-on
- Separate registration required (click Science Center Exhibit or Planetarium Show Visit)
- +$7 per participant to add on exhibits (adds one hour)
- +$7 per participant to add on a planetarium show (adds one hour)
Title I K-12 Schools
Title I status will be verified using the AZ Department of Education website.
Thanks to generous donors and grants, field trips for the 2024-25 academic year are free for students and teachers/staff from Title I schools!
Chaperones: Limited to 5. Chaperones are the same prices as participants for Standard K-12 Schools/Youth Organizations and free of charge for Title I K-12 Schools. Additional charges apply when adding on exhibits or planetarium shows.
