Halloween Fun at Flandrau

Join the hair-raising fun and special Halloween activities at Flandrau’s annual “Spooktacular Science” event, where everyone gets to be a Mad Scientist!  You can also thrill to the songs in our “Fright Lights” Halloween Laser Music Show.  It all happens on Sunday, October 28, with special bargain pricing: $4 Admission, $4 Planetarium and Laser Shows!

Astro 101: Yesterday & Today

Do you have fond memories of the astronomy course you took in college? Would you like to go back to school just one more time? Experience first-hand how we teach introductory astronomy to today’s students using the digital full-dome planetarium projector. The topic of the lecture will be “Space is Wildcat Country.” We will also discuss the nature of black holes and how to find so-called “extrasolar” planets.

International Observe the Moon Night

Come celebrate our Moon at “International Observe the Moon Night,” a free public Moon viewing event on Saturday, October 20. You can see fascinating Moon-related shows in the Eos Planetarium Theater, enjoy family-friendly Moon activities in the exhibit gallery, and behold the moon “up close” through telescopes on the UA Mall!  International Observe the Moon Night organized in collaboration with the UA Lunar & Planetary Lab and the Planetary Science Institute. Event runs from 5pm to 10pm, Saturday, October 20, 2018. Free telescope viewing. Free admission to Flandrau. Regular ticket price for planetarium shows.

Samskara & Art Universe

Enter another universe. This immersive fulldome planetarium show Samskara brings to life the kaleidoscopic imagery of world-renowned digital artist Android Jones. Jones’ lush psychedelic illustrations, animated in combination with the trip-hop beats of music producer Tipper, create a mind-bending experience.  The show has drawn crowds around the world. Now it debuts in Tucson at the Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium. Samskara will be paired with another fulldome art show, Art Universe, that features animated artwork by Jones and other contemporary artists. Sit back, relax, and alter your mind. Limited engagement October 11-13, 2018.

Samskara & Art Universe show tickets are $12. Tickets will be available for purchase online (convenience fee applies) and at the Flandrau front desk during regular business hours. No discounts or promotions applicable for Samskara tickets. Seating is limited, arrival prior to showtime advised. No refunds are available. 

Stoked to Party - '80s Night @ Flandrau!

Do you miss the big hair, the bodacious guitars, the spandex and shoulder pads that made the 1980s your favorite decade? Come to Flandrau for ‘80s Night and have a gnarly party! Rock out to our laser music show double-header packed with your favorite ‘80s songs for only $8! 

The time travel fun starts at 8pm with Laser Retro, a totally rad show with hits from Duran Duran, INXS, New Order, and many others. Then get fully stoked in Laser Stranger Thingsat 9pm, a show inspired by the hit Netflix series, with favorites songs from The Police, Devo, and The Clash, plus spooky synth tracks from the Stranger Things soundtrack.

Take it to the max at Flandrau’s ‘80s Night. Its like going back to the glory days of MTV – you’ll totally spazz out. ‘80s attire encouraged.

It all happens on Thursday, September 13 in the Eos Planetarium Theater at Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium on the UA campus. Laser Retro at 8pm, Laser Stranger Things at 9pm. Two shows for only $8.

Laser light shows for Pink Floyd’s landmark album Dark Side Of The Moonhave been an audience favorite at planetariums for over 40 years. Now a stunning newDark Side of the Moonplanetarium show will thrill viewers. Powered by Flandrau’s state-of-the-art fulldome digital projection system, this show leaps into a visual realm far beyond the old show. Simply put, this new immersive fulldome Dark Side of the Moonwill blow your mind. Opens in Flandrau’s Eos Planetarium Theater on Friday, September 7.

Mars Magnified: A Special Telescope Viewing Event

See Mars like never before! Mars will be closer to the Earth on Tuesday, July 31, than it has in many years! To take advantage of this viewing opportunity, Flandrau will host a “Mars Magnified” event in collaboration with the UA Steward Observatory and the UA Lunar and Planetary Lab. That night, the telescopes in both the Flandrau observatory and the Steward Observatory will be focused on Mars and open to the public for free. The evening event will launch with a special presentation about Mars in Flandrau’s Eos Planetarium Theater.
