The Basics

Camps dates: June 3rd-July 12th

Hours: 9am-4pm

Cost: $250 (except Week 5, which is $150)
*No Camp on July 4th and 5th*

Early Care: 7:30am - 8:30am, $5 per day or $20 per week

After Care: 4:30pm - 5:30pm, $5 per day or $20 per week

Grade Level: Entering Fall 2019

Registration: Priority registration for Flandrau members opens at 9am on February 26th and general registration opens on March 5th at 9am.

Week 1, June 3rd-7th
Star Light, Star Bright

Stars aren't just for wishing! This week you'll learn all about the sun, our nearest star, and the millions of far-away specks of light you see when you look up on a clear night. A trip to our FullDome planetarium theater will make this an out-of-this-world experience!

Week 2, June 10th-14th
Where the Wild Things Are

Let the wild rumpus begin! This week you'll explore the world of Max, king of all wild things, by learning about the jungle and all the creatures that live in it! Explore how these animals adapt to their habitats and what makes them unique! Join us for a week of adventure!

Week 3, June 17th-21st
Under the Sea 

Dive in and learn about animals that live in the deep blue sea, including fish, turtles, urchins and sea stars. Even though we're miles away from the ocean, you will have the opportunity to meet some of these creatures up close in the Museum's Marine Discovery Lab.

Week 4, June 24th-28th
Dino-Might 

Dinosaurs didn't disappear without a trace. They left behind tons of clues. We'll learn about their lives through fossilized bones, dinosaur tracks, eggs and other prehistoric evidence that can be found in our Museum's very own Fossil Corner.

Chemistry Kids

Slime, Oobleck and Goo make this camp icky and sticky. Learn about the properties of matter as we explore solids, liquids and gases. Mix, feel, and transform these substances into slimy creations of your own!

Insect Patrol

Grab your nets, bug jars, and magnifying glasses to learn about some of nature's smallest crawling, creeping, and flying friends as we explore the world of insects in our Insect Discovery Lab.

Tidal Wave

Begin your tidal adventure in our Marine Discovery Lab. Explore the magic of our water world by learning about how waves and currents move. Take a look at shorelines and tide pools, unlock secrets of amazing creatures, and go on a tidal treasure hunt.

Week 2, June 10th-14th
Wacky Chemistry

Do you enjoy experiments that pop, sizzle, smoke or go boom? Then this camp exploring chemical reactions is for you! Let your parents know that ‘messes’ can be educational as you discover what happens when different substances mix and react.

Week 3, June 17th-21st
Sky Gazer 

Bring your imagination and step into Space Station Flandrau! Share ancient myths, legends and stories inspired by planets and the constellations.  Learn about our solar system, the moon, black holes, comets and much more!

Week 4, June 24th-28th
Magic Tree House

Join Jack and Annie on some of their most memorable adventures as you explore exotic, mythical, and historical places. In this camp of magical adventure, you will research problems, solve riddles, crack codes, and create solutions with your fellow explorers.

Weather Bug

Learn to be a weather expert. Hands on science experiments will spark your curiosity about rain, snow, clouds and more. You will be a regular weather forecaster by the end of this camp!

Engineering Simple Machines

Got levers, pulleys, gears, wheels and axles? We do! Explore the world of simple machines with LEGOs® and more. Gear up for fun and learning in this construction camp that's perfect for all budding engineers.

Engineering Team Challenge

This camp is crammed with fun activities designed to get you to investigate problems through hands-on team challenges that bring engineering to life.  With limited time and materials, does your team have the skills and ingenuity to solve these engineering challenges?

Week 2, June 10th-14th

Super Sleuths

Your mission, should choose to accept it, is to explore the tricks of the spy trade using science as your secret weapon. Learn what it takes to work the case, crack the code and unravel the mystery. You and your team will follow the clues and learn some of the techniques that real forensic scientists use including fingerprinting, DNA collection and chromatography.

Zany Science

Push the limits of your inner mad scientist during this week of  fun experimentation. Using the scientific method, take part in unforgettable experiments that make science exciting! Turn the ordinary into the amazing as you observe everyday items ooze, bubble, fizz, and pop!

Lost in Space

Blast off into outer space as you peer deep into the mysteries of our solar system, the universe, and beyond. Make observations like an astronomer, eat like an astronaut, and think like a physicist during this week of out-of-this world activities.

Deep Blue Sea

Dive into a week of fun as you explore the deep blue sea! Learn about unique marine habitats as you ‘travel’ to a new marine ecosystem each day discovering rare and amazing animals. You'll dissect a squid, peer inside a shark, and design your own deep sea creature.

Renewable LEGO® Machines

If building machines is your thing then why not try to power them with the sun, wind or water?! We will use renewable energy to power various LEGO® machines and put our sustainability ideas to the test!

Myths and Legends of the Night Sky

Throughout time, humans have attempted to understand the cosmos by creating amazing stories to explain our universe. In this camp you will explore myths and legends from around the world as well as learn about Tucson's night sky.

Week 2, June 10th-14th
Blast from the Past

This camp explores where geology and archeology meet. Learn how humans used their natural environment for survival as we discover their ancient technologies. Explore artifacts and how they tell us stories of the past and what they tell us about our lives today.

Week 3, June 17th-21st
Lego Obstacle Course Challenge

Explore the relationship between force and motion in this camp meant for future engineers that like a challenge. You and a partner will design motorized machines to accomplish specific tasks for varying obstacle course challenges.

Week 4, June 24th-28th
Shark Week

Friend or foe? Learn what makes sharks such fascinating creatures. In our Marine Discovery Lab we’ll explore shark anatomy and their adaptations including factors affecting shark buoyancy and speed, human impact on shark populations and habitats, as well as, predator-prey dynamics and behavior.

Rocketry

3-2-1…Blast Off! Learn all about rocket flight and design through physics and engineering exploration. This camp is guaranteed to ignite your interests as you build, test, and fly your own rockets.

Graphic Novel 1.0

Can't get enough of graphic novels? The graphic novel is a powerful tool for advertising, movie making and many other creative fields that involve sequential storytelling. Don't let drawing stand in your way of creating your story in this camp all about the graphic novel!
