Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium is pleased to announce a complete renovation of the planetarium theater that will transform the visitor experience. Since our state-of-the-art FullDome digital projection system debuted in September of 2014, thousands of Tucsonans have already been thrilled to fly through the solar system, visit planets, and discover the wonders of our world in the planetarium theater. But we’ve had the same seats and seating layout since Flandrau opened in 1975, and a renovation was long overdue.
Now, a generous gift from the EOS Foundation has enabled a complete renovation of the planetarium theater, including brand-new seats, a new seating layout, enhanced lighting, new acoustic wall treatment, and more. All those improvements will add up to an amazing new theater experience.
The Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium was originally built thanks to a philanthropic gift from the writer Grace Flandrau. Since then, community support has continued to play a significant role in Flandrau’s ability to engage our Southern Arizona community with the world of science. Generations of children and families have come to Flandrau, and the planetarium shows and exhibits have inspired many careers in science. All along, philanthropy has propelled Flandrau’s mission. In this tradition of giving, the new theater renovation will serve to enrich our community and connect the next generation of Tucsonans to the amazing science being done at the University of Arizona.
All of us at Flandrau are thrilled about this upcoming renovation that will transform the planetarium theater. We hope that you’ll visit us soon to enjoy this amazing new experience!
